ASMA Hosted a Seminar on “Global Marine Environmental Challenges”
The seminar on “Global Marine Environmental Challenges” was organized for students of the Foundation English Program of Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy functioning within the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping CJSC. Capt. Titos Giannakakis led the seminar.
During the event, the captain talked about the importance of keeping clean the vulnerable marine environment. He went over the marine environmental protection issues ranging from modern methods to control ship pollutants, ship wastewaters, ship air emissions to the handling of ballast water, ship recycling, the use of proper fuel oils as well as the modern ship technological innovations introduced by IMO for the protection of the marine life and marine environment. Along with this, the captain provided information on the IMO’s marine environmental regulatory requirements and how these can affect existing and new ship building and ship structure.
The two-hour workshop was organized in an interactive way. Apprentice ship navigators and mechanics shared their views and asked their questions.
